Bespoke Hardback Binding

Custom sizes up to 420mm on the binding edge.

Bespoke hardbacks can be versatile to your requirements. Be it a collection of poems, illustrations, a book you have written or a record of your family tree, this is the perfect way to present a gift or protect a memento. There are three styles of hardback which function in slightly different ways, the Velo Hardback, the Drill & Sew or Section Sewn.

Velo Hardback Binding

Velo Binding

The velo hardback requires 8mm for the binding, and 25mm for the binding margin to prevent any text or images falling into the spine. It is ideal for A3 landscape and bindings with a smaller binding edge of 297mm.

Sewn Binding

Section Sewn Binding

This doesn’t require a binding margin so if you have a spread of images or wish for a comfortable read this could be the binding for you. The largest finished size we bind in section sewn is A4 portrait.

  • Printing for a section sewn book

    We would require a single PDF file, with the file organised as single pages and not spreads. If you wish to have a final book size of A4, paginate your pages and print onto A3 so that they can be folded and ready for binding.

    The charge for this is the printing/paper cost plus a £20 set-up charge.

  • Covering Materials

    Once you have decided on how you would like your pages bound together, the next stage is it to decide on the cover. We have a range of cloths and colours for you to choose from. Prices starting from £10 on top of the binding price.

  • Trimmings

    Other ways to personalise your custom made book is with colour or marbled endpapers, a ribbon marker, endbands, padded boards or dust jacket.

  • Spine Lettering

    Spine lettering starts from £5. Lettering can be placed across the spine and decorative lines can also be added at an additional cost.

  • Front Board Lettering

    Starts from £10 depending on how excessive it is as this is done by hand. We can offer gold silver, metallic colours and matte colours.

  • Blocking

    If you want to have a logo or brand embossed, a die can be made especially for you and is an excellent way to make your binding unique.
